First edition thus hard back binding in publisher's original orange cloth covers, gilt title lettering and symmetrical gilt scroll designs to the spine, gilt lettering and gilt design on black ground to the front cover. 4to. 10'' x 8''. Rubáiyát over 170 pages carrying the 101 quatrains of Edward FitzGerald…'s version enriched with 12 full-page mounted colour illustrations and 45 small mounted illustrated labels and decorations in black on gold paper with parallel black woodcut decorations to the sides. Ink ownership name to the front free end paper, spine ends very slightly rolled-in, spine very lightly faded, the pale orange cloth with slight soiling, without any foxing and in Very Good condition, no dust wrapper. This was to be a companion to Galaxy Science Fiction, in the tradition of Unknown. Author's include Damon Knight, Frank Robinson, Richard Matheson, Robert Bloch, Philip K. Dick, Isaac Asimov, John Wyndham, Algis Budrys, Zenna… Henderson, Jerome Bixby, Philip Jose Farmer, Fredric Brown, and others. It could not duplicate the audience of Campbell's Unknown which failed due to WWII paper shortages. This magazine's content was not broad based fantasy fiction, while it did publish quality fiction, it stayed away from traditional fantasy and popular sword and sorcery. It also got lost in the SF digest magazine boom. The covers of the first two issues are by Richard Powers.
