He was encouraged by Wallis Budge to pursue Egyptology , and became an expert on hieroglyphs and mummification. It's a very interesting inscription, revealing a friendship between scholars who shared interests in history, medicine, literature ,and who had had an extended correspondence by mail. CONDITION -- VERY GOOD -- This is a previously owned book that remains clean and presentable, with the following particulars noted : EXTERIOR -- The spine displays some abrasion and loss of surface color - at the head the loss is more clearly discernible ' spine extremities are compressed and display abrasion, with fraying just starting; gilt lettering still fairly bright; front board is clean with but mild rub; rear board is clean , but has slightly more rub; rear board edges display a few small dents; text-block edges are toned, else clean. BINDING -- Paper over end-paper hinges are not split; hinges are cracked between pp 112 and 113, else binding is still solid with no loose or detached leaves. INTERIOR : Interesting Gift Inscription on front paste-down (see below). End-papers toned, and displaying slight smudging; small book number label affixed to bottom fore-edge corner of front paste-down; text paper is toned and displays foxing ; else the interior is clean and free of marking.
