Good plot, characterization and, to some extent, mood, can be transferred from printed page to screen, but fine writing, subtleties and excellencies of style, word cadence and rhythm remain locked in the written text. Moreover, they play no part (except a psychological one) in the choosing of a story for screening. Here are twelve stories which possess the double virtue of having proved good film material and, at the same time, having stood the test of literary quality. Copyright page dated 1930; no additional printings stated, as issued. Contains poems by Emily Dickinson, Rudyard Kipling, Edward Lear, Robert Frost, A.E. Housman, W.B. Yeats, and others. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white decorative vignette art by Paula Rees Good. Covers show mild edge wear, with rubbing and small abrasions along the spine cloth and a tiny nick at lower spine edge. Corners lightly worn. Interior pages clean with light toning but no writing or major marks observed. Binding tight and fully intact. An attractive early example of Whitman's children's verse anthologies, increasingly uncommon in this 1930 first-issue format. Dimensions: Approx. 7.5 x 5.25 inches.
