Lord Bath, perhaps the most eccentric peer of the 20th century, began writing his journals while at Oxford but it took many years to get them into print. Originally intended as a multi-volume series, in fact only four books were published, this being the second volume after The Early Years, and explores elements of his early life and societal positioning. The first four volumes were labelled as series I - series II never happened. Lord Bath, peer, landowner and owner of the Longleat estate, sat in the House of Lords from 1992 to 1999. After Eton, National Service and Oxford (where he was president of the Bullingdon Club) he studied art in Paris. He developed Longleat as the first stately home Safari Park and practiced polygamy, campaigned for devolution, advocated egalitarianism and believed that criminals should be helped rather than punished, becoming a media sensation for this hippy fashion sense, his many 'wifelets' and extraordinary wealth.…

A letter thanking him for a painting, work on his songs/art and publishing his book on philosophy. The second letter mentions his songs. Written 1973. From a large collection of the artists letters. Anthony Rossiter RWA MSIAD was a British landscape painter who was educated at Eton and studied painting at Chelsea Art School from 1947-51. He was a romantic visionary, a "poet" whose heaven was the Mendip Hills in Somerset. Gnarled hedgerows, tumbling stone walls, broken gates, reflections in water and ploughed fields were all his subject matter. His works also included portraits, most notably that of W.H. Auden. Anthony Rossiter began his correspondence with Huxley and Osmond while writing his autobiography, The Pendulum (Gollancz, 1966). From the ecstasy of the creative high to the agonising despair of depression, The Pendulum was the creative artist's riposte to the cult success of Doors of Perception (Chatto & Windus, 1954). Where Huxley induced heightened perception by carefully controlled experiments with mescaline, Rossiter's swings came naturally and without warning. Alexander George Thynn, 7th Marquess of Bath 1932 - 2020, styled Viscount Weymouth between 1946 and 1992, was an English peer and landowner, owner of the Longleat estate, who sat in the House of Lords from 1992 until 1999, and also an artist and author. Lord Bath was in the media spotlight for his hippy fashion-sense and his many "wifelets", the latter of which earned him the nickname "the loins of Longleat" in reference to his prodigious sexual appetites and the name of his estate, which includes a safari park that prominently markets its lions. A very scarce copy of the 'minutes of the first meeting concerned with the celebration, together with background material'.Completed in 1580, Longleat House is leading and early example of the Elizabethan prodigy house, and is the seat of the Marquesses of Bath. The year 1980 marked four-hundred years since its completion, and preparations for the celebration started two years earlier.This meeting sets out the list of individuals who will be involved in arranging these celebrations, with two additional names handwritten to the tail of the list, and discusses aspects of the history of the house and estate. The use of the gardens, the choice of logo and music, potential pageants, and the scale of the celebrations ate discussed.Also present is a Longleat House card reading 'with the compliments of the Public Relations Office'. He was also involved in local politics and served as Chairman of Wiltshire County Council between 1906 and his death in 1946. Major Sir Algernon Tudor-Craig 1873-1943 was a British Army officer, heraldist and author of various works on art history, especially armorial porcelain. Tudor-Craig was an officer in the 4th (militia) battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles. He served as Instructor of Musketry with the 8th Provisional Battalion in 1902. From an album of his letters.
