Age related wear to the exterior with one or two traces of fraying to the edges; sunning on the spine. Light tanning and foxing to the page block and pages throughout. Sticker on front pastedown. Splits to the pastedown hinges; binding slightly visible between a few pages, but remains sound throughout. All content is clear. CM. Used.

pp. vi, (ii), 260. Follding, coloured Botanical map, 2 full-page maps. A Geological map is listed but not present. It was added to a pocket in the cover when the book was cloth-bound. As this copy is in paper wraps, I assume that it was considered too fragile to take such. Original paper wraps, label on spine, front cover coming off, text uncut and unopened, paperspine label and spine worn at the ends, mostly in good plus condition.

Six-page report on The Musk Rat loosely inserted. Contents nr. fine. Original covers good to vg. Charles Whymper (1853-1941) was an eminent British wildlife painter and illustrator. Robert Washinton Oates (1875-1957) was an English antique dealer and philanthopist with a keen interest in natural history. In 1954 he was instrumental in securing Gilbert White's home, The Wakes, as a museum.
