Herbert Alexander St. John-Mildmay was born on 20 July 1836.1 He was the son of Captain George William St. John-Mildmay and Mary Baillie. He married Susan Margaret Stackpole Motley, daughter o…f the American writere and diplomat the Hon. John Lothrop Motley (1814 -1877) , on 7 May 1884.1 He died on 21 October 1922 at age 86. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Rifle Brigade. He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.).
