Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 2nd Edition. 1968, Ian Allan Ltd., Hardback with dustjacket. Approximately, 16.5cm x 23.5cm x 5.5cm thick. The first edition of this book was published by the Southern Railway itself in 1936 but according to George Ottley's Bibliography it is sufficient as a general source of reference but is acknowledged to be unreliable and incomplete in its detail. Ian Allan published a revised edition in 1963 in two volumes incorporating many but not all of the corrections supplied by H.V. Borley and C.E. Lee. It also took the story from 1935 up to the time of nationalisation when the Southern Railway became part of British Railways. Then in 1968 they reprinted the book as one combined volume. 555pp including the index. There are 42 chapters and seven appendices plus additional plates of black and white photographs throughout the book. Two folding maps inside the back cover. The contents are in good clean condition although there is a little foxing to the face of the block and to the back of one fold of the maps where it is against the back cover. The dustjacket was in a poor condition and has been repaired by gluing it to a new paper backing. See scans if present., Book weighs 1538g. For UK buyer if book weighs more than 2Kg when packed (allow 150g-200g for packing) we will request additional postage. For non UK buyer the threshold is 399g surface mail, 150g airmail. Please don't order unless prepared to pay or ask first. ISBN 071100059X.
