Ma restava sconosciuta l'altra faccia di Chiara Matraini: cinque opere stampate in vita, di cui una in prosa e quattro prosimetri, e alcuni testi dispersi, che qui si pubblicano con criteri filologici moderni, corredati di introduzioni e opportunamente annotati. Questa attività della Matraini risulta eccezionale se si considerano i tempi: esauritasi la fioritura delle rimatrici, Matraini inseguì il progetto di continuare ad essere una scrittrice, in poesia e in prosa. Rientrata gradualmente Lucca nell'ordine voluto dalla Chiesa, vi si adattò indossando i panni della peccatrice pentita senza rinunciare ad affermarsi come intellettuale anche se donna. A parte le liriche, le sue opere non ebbero fortuna, se si eccettua il "Breve discorso sulla vita di Maria", alcuni dispersi e il carteggio con un letterato minore che le scriveva da Lucca quando lei era a Genova: bandita dalla città? Fuggita lei stessa? Una figura singolare, Chiara Matraini, alla quale questo volume intende rendere giustizia. Libro.
