Add to basketCondition: Very Good. No Dust Jacket. First Edition. A PHILOSOPHER HONORED BY DEWEY, RUSSELL, FRANKFURTER, CARDOZO & HIS STUDENTS. Privately published tribute to Morris Raphael Cohen (1880-1947), the influential philosopher and longtime City College of New York professor, recording the testimonial honoring his twenty-five years at the college. The volume gathers addresses, letters, and greetings from an extraordinary intellectual and legal circle, including John Dewey, Felix Frankfurter, Bertrand Russell, Judah L. Magnes, Benjamin N. Cardozo, Walter Lippmann, Frederick J. E. Woodbridge, and Cohen himself. Research confirms that the volume records a testimonial dinner attended by more than 1,000 people at New York's Hotel Astor on October 15, 1927. This copy is additionally inscribed 'Compliments of Dean Alfange' and retains an envelope containing 1962 newspaper clippings concerning Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter, one of the contributors to the volume. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: A PRIVATELY PRINTED TESTIMONIAL VOLUME. +++ Publisher's dark blue cloth with Morris R. Cohen's facsimile signature stamped in gilt on the front board and gilt titling to the spine. Octavo, approximately 7.5 inches tall; xix, 109 pages. +++ Frontispiece portrait after a painting by Joseph Margulies; the book notes that the original portrait was then in the custody of the College of the City of New York. The contents include a bibliography and introductory material followed by addresses, letters, and greetings honoring Cohen. +++ Published by the deliberately named "The Youth Who Sat at His Feet." Contemporary bibliographical records identify the volume as privately printed. CONDITION: VERY GOOD. Binding firm and square. Blue cloth shows moderate rubbing and handling, with light wear at the spine ends and corners and several small areas of edge exposure. Gilt facsimile signature remains bright. Interior generally clean and well preserved with light age-toning appropriate to the period. The laid-in newspaper material shows expected folds, edge wear, toning, and handling. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE - THE INTELLECTUAL WORLD AROUND MORRIS RAPHAEL COHEN. Morris Raphael Cohen was an influential American philosopher whose teaching at City College shaped generations of students in philosophy, law, logic, and political thought. This 1927 testimonial commemorated his twenty-fifth year at the college with a dinner attended by more than 1,000 people, reflecting his unusual influence as a teacher. 1928 TESTIMONIAL OF AMERICAN INTELLECTUAL LIFE The contributors-including John Dewey, Bertrand Russell, Felix Frankfurter, Benjamin Cardozo, Walter Lippmann, and Judah Magnes-place the volume at the intersection of American philosophy, jurisprudence, education, and progressive intellectual culture. The retained 1962 Frankfurter clippings add a particularly appropriate copy-specific connection to one of the tribute's principal contributors. SUBJECTS: American Philosophy, Legal Philosophy, Jurisprudence, Progressive Era Intellectual History, New York Intellectual History, Supreme Court History, Morris Raphael Cohen, Felix Frankfurter, John Dewey, Bertrand Russell, Benjamin Cardozo, City College of New York.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Break into the powerful world of parallel GPU programming with this down-to-earth, practical guide Designed for professionals across multiple industrial sectors, Professional CUDA C Programming presents CUDA -- a parallel computing platform and programming model designed to ease the development of GPU programming -- fundamentals in an easy-to-follow format, and teaches readers how to think in parallel and implement parallel algorithms on GPUs. Each chapter covers a specific topic, and includes workable examples that demonstrate the development process, allowing readers to explore both the "hard" and "soft" aspects of GPU programming. Computing architectures are experiencing a fundamental shift toward scalable parallel computing motivated by application requirements in industry and science. This book demonstrates the challenges of efficiently utilizing compute resources at peak performance, presents modern techniques for tackling these challenges, while increasing accessibility for professionals who are not necessarily parallel programming experts. The CUDA programming model and tools empower developers to write high-performance applications on a scalable, parallel computing platform: the GPU. However, CUDA itself can be difficult to learn without extensive programming experience. Recognized CUDA authorities John Cheng, Max Grossman, and Ty McKercher guide readers through essential GPU programming skills and best practices in Professional CUDA C Programming, including: CUDA Programming ModelGPU Execution ModelGPU Memory modelStreams, Event and ConcurrencyMulti-GPU ProgrammingCUDA Domain-Specific LibrariesProfiling and Performance Tuning The book makes complex CUDA concepts easy to understand for anyone with knowledge of basic software development with exercises designed to be both readable and high-performance.
