Horace Sawyer Mazet (1903-2002) was an African big game hunter and author of two other adventure books and numerous articles on wildlife. He was on Safari in East Africa several times accompanied by his guide and professional hunter "Ernie"whose full credentials are not disclosed here, as Ernie became a fugitive from justice, wanted by the law, among other crimes, poaching elephants for the ivory to sell them in black market to survive, as his legal hunting rights were suspended due to a series of misadventures and red tape. Here Mazet examines Ernie to record his rise and fall from a noble profession that forced him to. Eco e a full time poacher, like many others did before him. Hunting elephants in the olden days cost next to nothing, and the rewards-were high. Hunters like W.D.M. Bell, F.C.Selous, Tony Sanchez Arino, Pondoro Taylor, James Sutherland, C.H. Stigand, Dinis Lyell and countless others killed hundreds of elephants for their ivory a d sold them amassing fortunes large enough to retire comfortably. This is the story of such a hunter forced to become an outlaw in the modern Africa, with a lengthy inscription by the author in pen on the front blank page.illustrated with photos ans a map, 284 pages with dustjacket protected in mylar.
