This Regiment fought with the Army of the Potomac beginning in March 1862 through Appomattox. It includes a long section, "With the Cavalry on the Peninsula" by Gen. William W. Averell, the Colonel of the Regiment at that time based on his Regimental Journal. Also Bvt.Lt.Col. Rawls describing The Second Cavalry Division in the Gettysburg Campaign. Other sections include additional reminiscences of Gettysburg and other operations and engagements to the end of the war. An excellent, detailed history of cavalry operations in the Eastern Theater, one of the best. Well illustrated, a comprehensive roster, and excellent maps. REFERENCES: DORN PA 31: NEVINS I pg 143: "An exceptionally full, day-by-day chronicle of the regiment first commanded by William W. Averell; indispensable for an insight into Eastern cavalry operations throughout the four years of war." MULLINS//REED #197. Inscribed by Author(s).
