While both Siyi dialect and standard Cantonese are branches of the same linguistic family, they are very mutually intelligible. The author, W. John McCoy Jr. (1924-2007) was a decorated war hero, linguist, educator and businessman who was deeply engaged with China in one capacity or another for his entire career. 320 pp., punch-hole bound in soft wrappers.
