Contemporary green cloth; slight mottling and worn corners to beveled-edge boards; some bubbling to front board's surface cloth; cocked spine has darkened cloth with shallow wear to heel; 4cm ragged chip at spine head with losses to quire tips and partially affecting dulled gilt title lettering; front board's gilt lettering remains reasonably bright. Text block edges darkened with small stains. Front pastedown has partial scratch-out/surface peeling to past owner's 1879 ink inscription along with last owner's O'Casey family Mississippi and Ireland genealogical-themed bookplate; shallow stains at top margins of initial and rear leaves which diminish inward; ink number stamp at bottom center of title page. Binding is firm. Acquired from the estate of Birmingham, Alabama pathologist, bibliophile, and genealogist Dr. Albert Eugene Casey (1903-1982) who served as director of laboratories at Birmingham Baptist Hospitals from 1942-1972 with the aforementioned ink number stamp likely being Dr. Casey's personal library catalog number.
