Cloth. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Brown blind-stamped cloth with gilt lettering and trim on spine, corners and spine ends bumped and worn, cover shows light rubbing. Page edges quite tan. Ex-seminary-library with the usual indications. Binding cracking in the center of the text, otherwise binding is tight. Pages somewhat tanned and foxed but clean, no other markings. 515 pages. Packaged carefully for shipment in cardboard with U. S. tracking. Oversized or heavy books may require extra postage for priority or international shipment.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Hardcover, 9 1/4 by 6 inches, 434 pages. Book has at some point gotten wet so about half the cloth has lifted from the boards of the front cover and about a quarter on the back cover. Bright gilt lettering on spine. Endpapers and preliminary pages up to title page are wrinkled and also have two inch by 1/4 inch bug chewed area up to and including title page. Rear end pages also wrinkled. Hinges are tight and pages apart from very light scattered foxing are clean. text block slightly skewed. Not a handsome book but a decent reading copy. Initial page contains gift inscription to rev. Giles P. Hawley. Hawley was a graduate of the Union Theological Seminary and the pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church in Saratoga Springs, New York. Due to condition, I will not ship this book overseas.

McCosh was a prominent philosopher of the Scottish School of Common Sense and president of Princeton University 1868-1888 - this foundational work was originally published in 1860 and again revised in 1872.

He sided with the Free Church of Scotland in the Disruption of 1834 and pastored in that denomination. Later he was president of Princeton University 186888 where he debated Charles Hodge on the issue of Darwinism. FAIR to GOOD. Textblock appears clean. Binding sound. Library stamps and discard stamp to endpapers. Sticker ghost to spine heel. Moderate wear to extremities with spine head worn and corner points through.
