At Hame Wi' Freedom: Essays on Hamish Henderson and the Scottish Folk Revival edited by Eberhard Bort THE BOOK At Hame Wi' Freedom marks the tenth anniversary of Hamish Henderson's death in 2002. It is the third book of a loose trilogy: Borne on the Carrying Stream (Grace Note Publications, 2010), followed by 'Tis Sixty Years Since (Grace Note Publications, 2011) - all revolving around the life and legacy of Hamish Henderson and the Scottish Folk Revival he did so much to inspire and sustain. At Hame wi' Freedom focuses on Hamish Henderson's involvement in the revival, his association with Perthshire and the North-East, the emergence of his poetic voice, and his political activism. It also features Pino Mereu's poetic evocation of the Anzio (Beachhead) Pipe Band and the 2011 Hamish Henderson Memorial Lecture by Owen Dudley Edwards. Further contributions are from Eberhard Bort, Maurice Fleming, Fred Freeman, George Gunn, Tom Hubbard, Alison McMorland, Ewan McVicar, Hayden Murphy and Belle Stewart. THE AUTHOR Eberhard 'Paddy' Bort is the Academic Coordinator of the Institute of Governance at the University of Edinburgh. He is also Chair of Edinburgh Folk Club and the editor of two previous volumes related to the life and work of Hamish Henderson - Borne on the Carrying Stream: The Legacy of Hamish Henderson (Grace Note Publications, 2010) and 'Tis Sixty Years Since: The 1951 Edinburgh People's Festival Ceilidh and the Scottish Folk Revival (Grace Note Publications, 2011).THE PITCH Praise for Borne on the Carrying Stream 'The editor has not only done a fine job in pulling this volume together, but also .his introduction is a model of what introductory chapters should be like. It provides signposts, leading each individual reader to the chapters likely to be of the greatest interest, but is also a scholarly and insightful overview.' Frank Bechhofer, Scottish Affairs 'a compendious Henderson primer' Jim Gilchrist, The Scotsman Praise for 'Tis Sixty Years Since 'A plethora of approaches befitting such a multi-faceted subject .far too much to do it justice here: just read it!' Clare Button, The Living Tradition Editor Editor Eberhard Bort, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.

Paperback. Condition: New. The notion of light verb constructions has been traditionally related to the 'insignificance' of the verb, which is described as a grammatical item only codifying TAM system and ?-features, whereas the whole predicative content is thought to be conveyed by the noun. This book deals with the light verb constructions as instances of complex verbs, intended as multi-predicational but monoclausal structures. This allows to deepen the actual verb lightness, the effective noun predicativity, as well as their effect on the cohesion of the construction. The papers in this volume reflect on the concrete contribution of noun and verb to the event and argument structure, and on the relevance of semantically different noun classes for the verb selection. From different theoretical approaches, data of a great variety of languages are investigated, such as Indo-European languages - both modern (Germanic, Slavic, Romance and Iranian languages) and ancient (Latin and Ancient Greek) - but also Mandarin Chinese, and different polysynthetic languages (e.g. Ket, Nivkh, Murrinh-Patha, Kiowa, Bininj Gun-wok, Ainu). The range of topics, languages and perspectives presented in this book make it of great interest to both theoretical and applied linguists.
