Encuadernación de tapa blanda. Condition: Nuevo.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - In the work Muchismo, the photographer Cristina de Middel digs around in her studios and brings all of her images to light, exactly the way she has them stored, in colossal, gorgeous chaos. This is a sui generis display of her entire oeuvre, with neither a curator nor any apparent order, which seeks to question the art market and its rules. At the same time, this book shows a series made up of pictures taken in NewZealand in which the artist strives to bring depth back to landscape photographyby using mirrors and her own devices. Both works are captured in this publication, a book that had become an object of desire even before it materialised, as always happens with the works of one of the most fascinating photographers on today's scene.

Soft cover. Condition: USED_VERYGOOD. 1st Edition. 'In life we all go through good times and bad times over and over, tirelessly. I went through one of these cycles and transformed it into this book. It was my story but very well could it be yours. 'Everything will be ok' is the chronicle of a magical journey that starts with the emotional collapse that comes after falling into the hole and ends, through a long healing walk, with the assumption that after all, and whatever happens, life is always worth the struggle and it can actually be pretty funny. Through photographs taken over five years, the book is set up to form as a classical narrative structure in three acts that continuously crosses the line between documentary and imaginary together with the line between the personal and the unfamiliar. The ink in the book cover, reacts to temperature so it changes color whenever it is touched, leaving the fingerprints of the reader visible for some time. It is, in a way, a living book that mutates and adapts according to the viewer whose warmth and contact heals the darkness.' Shortlisted for the 2014 Paris Photo - Aperture Foundation ??PhotoBook? Awards. [96] pages : all colour illustrations ; 25 cm. First edition of 750 copies. Signed on red on title-page. Printed in Artes Grafica Palermo. Minimal shelf wear to edges, no inscriptions, tight and square binding. Photographs available on request. All books dispatched same or next working day in robust packaging. Signed by Author(s).
Condition: new. Second Edition. Esù is one of the most enigmatic entities in the cosmogony of West African religions and he crossed the Ocean hand in hand with the the slaves to land in a new world where forced labour, lack of freedom and missionaries would force a transformation that lasts until today in the global understanding of African rooted religions. Midnight at the Crossroads documents and records these transformations and adaptations from its origin in Benin to Cuba, Brazil and then Haiti. Esù starts as a totem in Benin, becomes a child in Cuba, then a young seductive man in Brazil and finally an old man in Haiti, but it is always a confusing spirit that questions your certainties and makes you doubt along the way. Esù is the energy for change and mutation. It is hard to define whether his influences are good or evil, but to say the least they are challenging. He is the one in charge of the communication with the other Orishas, he is in charge of the crossroads and he is the one placing obstacles on your way for you to redeem the control on your own life. In order to bring some light to the obscure narrative that predominates in popular culture and that directly links African rooted religions like Umbanda, Santeria or Voodoo, to devilish energies, this project combines a documentary approach to rituals and ceremonies with visions around the myths and legends that are illustrated to provide a wider and non-linear understanding. Cristina De Middel and Bruno Morais have spent 3 years following the path of Esù and building a document that comes as a reaction to the advance of Evangelical churches accross Africa and South America that is challenging the survival of an endangered cultural heritage that adds some substantial input to the very much needed non-official version of History. red cloth, sharp corners, black lettering, binding tight, pages crisp, new book wrapped in black tissue, signed on title page by both authors.

Should not be confused with the regular trade edition that was published simultaneously with it. The Limited Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Cristina De Middel: Regular-sized volume format. Red hard boards with black spine and hand-painted art on the cover, as issued. Each copy has unique, graffiti-inspired art on the cover. Color photographs by Cristina De Middel. "Add-ins" (the USCIS Immigration Form and New York Jets Game Card) inserted within the book. 7 X 5 inch original color print appended at the back. Printed on thick archival stock paper in London to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Cristina De Middel's Contribution to the "Self Publish, Be Happy" Series. Challenges the archetype of street photography. "Embodying the notion of the American Dream and the tingling sensation of collective fascination with such an iconic place, the book is something of an enigma and hints at a multilayered story. Through signifiers and visual clues, the viewer is invited to piece together the sum of its parts, as in a game or a puzzle" (Publisher's blurb). The puzzle, if it is one, is the immigrant dream of a stable, prosperous, and fulfilling life, which is also the American Dream. That an idealized America is the physical epicenter of this global dream (despite its undeniable racial, social, and cultural problems, which street photography at its best often captures) is not America's fault. Surely, there is a reason that no one in the world dreams of moving to Russia or China as an immigrant. All of Cristina De Middel's Artist Books are tender, loving, and yet unflinching re-imaginations of nationalist, immigrant-internationalist, and all other utopian dreams. Although we may find her Artist Books funny and parodistic, they are, strictly speaking, neither humor nor parody. Cristina De Middel celebrates the greatest ideas and ideals, however imperfect, that people everywhere believe in, live by, and if necessary, are also willing to die for: Nationalism (nation/states that people now identify with as the very essence of their being, whether they be American, Jewish, or Zambian), the United Nations (the most abstract and unrealizable of ideals), and socially conscious, humane societies. Hers is a hopeful vision rather than a nihilistic or skeptical one, and as such, is very rare indeed among all-knowing contemporary artists. An absolute "must-have" title for Cristina De Middel collectors. This is a copy of the Limited Edition of 250 copies, indicated/numbered as such on the Front Limitation Page. It is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen by Cristina De Middel. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. Aside from the "add-ins" (the USCIS Immigration Form and New York Jets Game Card) that are randomly inserted within the book, it comes with a 7 X 5 inch color print that is appended at the back and is available only with the Limited Edition. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the Limited Edition available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare signed copy thus. 60 color plates, 1 original color print. Cristina De Middel's "The Afronauts" is widely regarded as one of the greatest photography books of our time. One of the most brilliant artist/photographers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER CRISTINA DE MIDDEL TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). Signed by Author.

Limite Edition of only 500 copies. 60 pages with color photographic reproductions throughout. Contains the Jets playing card but lacks both the U.S. Customs form and the unsigned photographic print). Book Condition: Fine/New. Cristina De Middel gained international acclaim in 2012 with her her self-published book The Afronauts which, in just a few months from its release, became widely praised and highly collectible. She has been nominated for the prestigious Deutsche Borse Photography Prize 2013 and won the ICP Infinity Award. This new project challenges the archetype of street photography and the language and veracity of the photograph as a document. De Middel takes us out onto the shimmering streets of New York City, and playfully works with visual tropes to illuminate the surreal quality of space within the city. Embodying the notion of the American Dream and the tingling sensation of collective fascination with such an iconic place, the book is something of an enigma and hints at a multilayered story - through signifiers and visual clues, the viewer is invited to piece together the sum of its parts, as in a game or a puzzle.
