Signed
No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Signed as "Robert W. Miers" in black ink on both letters. Collection of two original letters typed in purple and blue ink on beige paper. Letters are datelined April 13, 1903 (typed in purple ink) and September 4, 1904 (typed in blue ink; "1903" corrected to "1904" with pencil) in Bloomington, Indiana. 8" x 10 1/2." Unpaginated. Each letter is one page (typed on one leaf of paper on front only). The 1903 letter is clean and intact overall but has a diagonal crease measuring about 5" and a tiny hole in lower-left corner, a piece (not affecting any text) missing in upper-right corner, a few tiny closed tears along edges, two horizontal fold lines (likely original), slight darkening and a small stain on back, and moderate age toning. The 1904 letter is very clean and intact except for light age toning, slight darkening on back, a few small smudges, a few bumps at bottom edge and lower-left corner, and two horizontal fold line (likely original). Each letter is Very Good. This is a set of two typed letters signed by Robert W. Miers and addressed to Richard B. Webster, the latter of whom was an American military officer. Each letter is relatively brief and only about one paragraph in length. The 1903 letter shows that Webster is in Fort Logan, Colorado. This letter has a printed header of the Committee on Invalid Pensions, U.S. House of Representatives. In the 1903 letter, Miers commends Webster for passing his preliminary examination and receiving a recommendation by the Board. Miers writes that he has also recommended Webster to the Adjutant General. The 1904 letter shows that Webster is in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This letter has Miers's personalized header on U.S. House of Representatives stationery. In the 1904 letter, Miers responds to Webster and writes that he has sent a letter of recommendation to the Adjutant General. Miers writes that he hopes Webster will pass another examination and be appointed Second Lieutenant. Robert W. Miers (1848-1930) was an American attorney and politician. Miers served as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives in 1879, judge of the 10th Circuit of Indiana from 1883-1896, and a United States Representative from Indiana from 1897-1905 (the 1903 letter shows Miers as a member of the 57th Congress). Miers was a Democrat. Signed by Author(s).
