Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Corvettes of the Royal Canadian Navy 1939-1945, Ken MacPherson and Marc Milner; foreword by Louis C. Audette, O. C., Q. C.; Corvette plans by John McKay; Vanwell Publishing Limited, St. Catharines, Ontario, 1993. First edition. This book has the ownership signature of S. G. Roscoe, a retired CPO from the RCN. He wrote in the callsigns for the earlier corvettes featured in the book. A nice touch. From the foreword For the historian or researcher of tomorrow, few books about the Canadian navy will stir more memories than this one. The corvette was the backbone of the Canadian navy; it was the largest class of ships ever to serve in the Canadian navy and also the largest class of ships ever built in Canadian shipyards. For sheer worthiness, few ships have ever been better designed. Assigned to fight the U-boat menace, they were barely adequate in speed, their surface armament just met the needs of the moment, their anti-submarine Asdic equipment was barely adequate, and their living conditions made heroes of men destined to quite other roles in life. Today, there remains only Sackville in Halifax to remind the world of a great past. This large format book, 174 pages, is in fine condition in a fine dust jacket that is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap. There are photos of the corvettes that have served during WW II with pertinent details. There are three wonderful fold-out designs of corvettes at the back of the book. …
