Paul Thiry dHolbach (* 8. Dezember 1723 in Edesheim bei Landau; 21. Januar 1789 in Paris) war ein Philosoph der französischen Aufklärung, der vor allem für seine religionskritischen und atheistischen Thesen bekannt ist. Sein Geburtsname lautet Paul Heinrich Dietrich Holbach. Berühmtheit erlangte sein Buch System der Natur, das er 1770 unter dem Namen des zu der Zeit bereits seit zehn Jahren verstorbenen Jean-Baptiste de Mirabaud veröffentlichte. In diesem Werk trat er ausdrücklich für den Atheismus ein und betrachtete die Natur als materialistisch-deterministisch wirkende Kette von Prozessen. Holbachs Pariser Haus war ein Treffpunkt und ein wichtiges Zentrum des Gedankenaustauschs unter den Aufklärungsphilosophen.
