He earned his LLB and LLM and his Doctor of Jurisprudence and practiced law in Atlanta, Madison and Greensboro, Georgia since 1948. He was a law professor at John Marshall University in Atlanta where the annual Freeman Mitchell Award is still presented to a worthy student of insurance law. He is author of numerous writings, including his first book, Georgia Law on Insurance published in 1965 by the Lawyers Publishing Company in Atlanta. Mr. Mitchell was heavily involved in numerous civic, church, youth and volunteer activities all of his career . [He] lives in Mount Dora, Florida with his wife, Louise Llewellyn Mitchell. His children are Cathy, Karen, Camille and son Cameron. His fictional novel, Fire in His Bosom, was published in 1998 after four years in the writing." In November 1979 Freeman Mitchell was disbarred from the practice of law in Georgia. In the Matter of Mitchell, 244 Ga. 766 (262 *281SE2d 89) (1979). The ground for disbarment was instructing witnesses to give false testimony. To an indictment he entered a nolo contendere plea which he contends was done to avoid family embarassment a trial would have caused. Omer W. Franklin, Jr., General Counsel State Bar and Joe David Jackson, Jr., Assistant General Counsel State Bar, for State Bar of Georgia asked,"This raises the question as to what role remorsefulness must play in rehabilitation."
