Bax" et une lettre autographe signée, de la même date, conçue… en ces termes: "La plus belle fille, mon cher Directeur ne peut offrir, daignez m'épargner le reste. C'est pourquoi je vous dédie ce dernier exemplaire de M. Prudhomme. Ce n'est pas mon dernier ouvrage, mais c'est ce que j'ai fait de mieux. Et voilà! Votre dévoué. Henri Monnier." Envoi d'Amédée Bax sur un feuillet de garde. Monnier avait esquissé le type de "Joseph Prudhomme" dès 1830 dans un recueil de dessins, avant de lui donner sa physionomie définitive et d'en faire un personnage littéraire et le protagoniste de cette pièce de théâtre. Sur la scène il jouait lui-même le rôle de Prudhomme. Rousseurs.
