Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition. The collected graphic novel edition of the first six installments of this fantastical story of Victorian England. Somewhat overshadowed by Moore's landmark Watchmen and V for Vendetta, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a stand-out series from the late 1990s. It won the Bram Stoker award for best "illustrated narrative" and was adapted into a film starring Sean Connery. "In keeping with Moore?s usual practice, the scripts for The League were extraordinarily detailed and precise, yet, as with the best of Moore?s work, the collaboration between artist and writer was instrumental to the success, with O?Neill?s detailed and edgy style adding a lot to the period setting and evoking the appearance of penny dreadfuls and other forms of nineteenth-century popular print culture"?Cambridge History of the Graphic Novel. Unpaginated but about 180 pages. 7 by 10-1/2 inches. Color. First edition (states first printing on the copyright/credit page). A fine copy in a fine dust jacket.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First British edition. This is the grail item in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen graphic novel series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Kevin O'Neill?the British import Knockabout Comics issue purchased from Gosh Comics with the suppressed 7-inch vinyl record, with both the book and the record signed by the author and the artist. This book is set in 1958, with a storyline incorporating George Orwell's Big Brother, Allan Quartermain, James Bond, and Bulldog Drummond. The publisher was a subsidiary of DC Comics, with whom Alan Moore had a tense relationship, going back to the publication of his landmark Watchmen graphic novel. According to the Internet, Moore deliberately incorporated lots of literary characters still under copyright into Black Dossier, as a way of testing DC's tolerance for risk and support of free expression. Moore also wrote two parody songs, in the style of 1950s rock-and-roll, to accompany the book. DC produced a test pressing in 2007, as Black Dossier was in development but never issued the record commercially. The book was not issued in the UK, which has stricter copyright laws than the US. However, in 2012, the British comic book publisher Knockabout imported copies of the second American printing of Black Dossier and sold them with a new barcode label sticker. On the publication day, the book was available at Gosh Comics, in London, with the single by "Eddie Enrico and His Hawaiian Hotshots." The final section is intended for viewing with 3-D glasses, a pair of which were issued with the book. See info on single below London, Knockabout - ADD _5 of 3D glasses, add pic of 3D pages. First UK issue (the American "second printing" with a Knockabout Comics barcode on the back cover). A fine copy in a fine dust jacket, with the 3-D glasses attached at the back as issued. With a fine copy of the 7-inch Eddie Enrico single. Copies of Black Dossier with the single are very scarce (they tend to get separated from the book); this is the first copy I have seen that is signed by both Moore and O'Neill. The book is inscribed, "For Steve, all the best, Kevin O'Neill" and "For Steve?Very Best?Alan Moore." The single is also inscribed on the sleeve, "For Steve. Best, Kevin O'Neill" and "For Steve?Very best?Alan Moore.".
