Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition/First Printing. This copy has been SIGNED by Thomas Moran on the title page! With this book, Thomas Moran returns to the historical and moral terrain that so brilliantly informed his celebrated debut novel, "The Man in the Box." Subtly crafted yet undeniably powerful, "Anja the Liar" truly reveals Moran's talent for immersing us utterly in whatever moment he chooses to describe. The New York Times in their "And Bear In Mind" (Editors' choices of other recent books of particular interest says "Moran explores the moral climate of the post-World War II era through characters (Anja, a girl from Krakow who was once a Nazi informer; a German engineer; a murderous woman who ran a Chetneik unit) who, like their nations, have had experiences so extreme there is no prescription for recovery. Harry Hull, the brilliantly flawed protagonist of Thomas Moran's fourth novel, delivers an epic of large and small revelations about what it means to be a man struggling to know himself. Publishers Weekly said "Harry's bluff, vernacular voice never sugarcoats his impoverished personality. The irony of the denouement, and its realistic assessment of Harry's future, is genuinely affecting. Signed by Author(s).

Signed [in the Plate] by Moran. Overall size: 15-1/8" x 10-13/16". Etching: 11-5/8" x 8-1/16" Moran "was an American painter and printmaker of the Hudson River School in New York whose work often featured the Rocky Mountains. Moran and his family, wife Mary Nimmo Moran and daughter Ruth took residence in New York where he obtained work as an artist. He was a younger brother of the noted marine artist Edward Moran, with whom he shared a studio. A talented illustrator and exquisite colorist, Thomas Moran was hired as an illustrator at Scribner's Monthly. During the late 1860s, he was appointed the chief illustrator for the magazine, a position that helped him launch his career as one of the premier painters of the American landscape, in particular, the American West." [Wiki] Here, Moran focuses his artistic talent on Yosemite's Half-Dome, a California landmark perhaps best publicized by John Muir, who first visited the area a decade prior to Moran's evocative portrayal captured in this etching. Age-toning. Browning to perimeter. 2 small white cloth mounting tabs to verso, at top. Withal, a VG copy. Now housed in an archival mylar sleeve.
