Ferroud, 1924, Numbered Limited Edition, no 48, one of 100 on Japon paper in three states with the initials FF (publisher). Numbered Limited Edition this one number 48, with the illustrations in three states, the first within the text, the second reproduced in colour and the third in monochrome, the latter two states bound in at the rear of the volume. Full blue-green coarse grained morocco binding by Belgian master bindery of 'Weckesser et Ses Fils' with the name stamped in gilt at the foot of the decorated full leather pastedown. Housed in a matching slipcase. The spine is ever so slightly faded, the boards with quadruple gilt filet, the magnificent paste downs are full yellow leather with blue leather onlays and gilt decoration, marbled end papers and gilt page edges. The slipcase is beautifully crafted in marbled paper and matching leather opening. The illustrator, Mossa [1883-1971] began as a Symbolist painter. His work here is reminiscent of his Anglo-French contemporary, Edmund Dulac. Pagination: illustrated cover, illustration with limitation page to verso, frontispiece, title, half title with Approbabtion to the reverse, VIII, 236pp, colophon, [1]pp; 48 pages of illustrations in colour; 48 pages of illustrations in monochrome; the spine, front cover, and rear cover bound in. Provenance: no inscriptions or bookplate. Approximately 8 inches tall (20.5cm). Condition Report Externally Spine very good condition faded gently, gilt titles triple gilt ruled compartments. Page edges very good condition all gilt. Slipcase very good condition marbled paper covered slipcase, slightly faded and rubbed, leather entrance with minor marks. See above and photos. Bound by Georges Levitsky in full vellum with watercolor & gold painting following illustrations, etc. Marbled endpapers, original wrappers bound in, aeg., morocco edged slipcase with chemise. In fine condition. Lettered signature of Levitsky on lower left of back cover.
