First edition in English, volume 1 (of 2) only. 16mo (15cm by 9cm), title, vi, 252pp. Engraved frontispiece, folding map of China and 3 engraved plates. 19th-century binding of full brown calf, gilt titling to the spine. There is some scuffing and chafing of the binding, several pages are close-cropped at the leading edge, there is a short tear to the margins of the map, and one page (pp 117/118) is torn with slight loss. Overall, this book is in good condition. Please note that this is volume 1 only.
