Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book narrates the detailed history of the 148th Pennsylvania Volunteers, one of three hundred fighting regiments in the Union Army that lost 15% or more of its men. Assembled from the personal accounts of the soldiers themselves, this book is unique among regimental histories for the depth of its coverage and the variety of perspectives it contains. The author has collected stories from every rank and department of the regiment's service, from privates to colonels and from infantry to medical staff. The result is a vivid and textured account of the regiment's experiences in some of the most pivotal battles of the Civil War, including Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and Petersburg. The book also provides insights into the personal lives of the soldiers, their motivations for enlisting, and their experiences during and after the war. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the Civil War or in the experiences of the common soldier. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
