Three light stains upon toned top edge; some foxing upon fore-edge and bottom edge. Appleton's foxed promotional sheet for Louisa Muhlbach's historical novels tipped-in at front free endpaper and which summarizes this novel as "illustrative of the period of Napoleon's invasion of Germany. The beautiful Queen of Prussia, the idol of Germany, occupies a prominent place." Old color jester illustration appears to have been stenciled onto the front flyleaf's blank recto with associated toning to page. B/w frontispiece retains tissue guard. Double-column text throughout with two b/w plate illustrations on unpaged leaves. Short closed tear at fore-edge margin of pages 203-204. Mostly light foxing to interior pages.
