Agnes Neill Scott, born Willa Anderson (13 March 1890 - 22 May 1970) was a Scottish novelist, essayist and translator. She was the major part of a translation partnership with her husband, Edwin Muir. She and her husband translated the works of many notable German-speaking authors including Franz Kafka. They were given an award in 1958 in their joint names; however, Willa recorded in her journal that her husband "only helped"'. ***'Enitharmon Press is an independent British publishing house specialising in artists' books, poetry, limited editions and original prints. The name of the press comes from the poetry of William Blake: Enitharmon was a character who represented spiritual beauty and poetic inspiration. The press' logo "derives from a Blake woodcut". The Press was founded by Alan Clodd in 1967. Sharing a belief with close friend Kathleen Raine in the "sacrificial stresses which seem to be the means by which the vision of outstanding creative spirits is enhanced for the benefit of their fellow beings", Clodd had little faith in the publishing mainstream. Since its founding Enitharmon Press has been distinguished as an independent press whose two major concerns have been the quality of its books (from paper and binding to typesetting and design) and maintaining a "wide-ranging literary culture outside the realm of agents, public relations and television tie-ins"'. (Wik)] ***A near fine copy of this first edition poetry pamphlet, published in a limited edition of just 200 copies by the Enitharmon Press. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.

Original Printed Wrappers. Condition: Very Good. From Photographs (illustrator). First Edition. San Francisco: Sierra Club, 1907. First Edition. June, 1907 Issue [Vol VI, No. 3]. Original printed wrappers, 9 1/4" x 6". 58 numbered pp. + 15 photographs on 10 pages + 8 pp. ads, which latter include several sharp railroad/travel ads. Good, plus; rear cover shows notable tear from long ago, tape-repaired long ago; see scan. No other salient flaws, other than the ever-present crinkle to the edges of the covers and some of the uncut pages caused by the over-extended circuit-binding ("yapp" binding) favored by the Club at that time. Contents near fine. Clean, binding sturdy. Closer to VG than Good, but, technically, Good. See all scans. Lead article by Alden Sampson, "The Aftermath of a Club Outing" (?!), spans some 23 pages. Also in this issue: Along the Foothills of Lake Chabot (W.R. Whyte); Mt. Rose Weather Observatory (J.E. Church, Jr.); The Ascent of Asama-Yama (E.A. Wicher); and regular departments. Illustrated as always with plenty of black-and-white photographic plates. Scarce. LSC1.

Original printed wrappers, 9 3/4" x 6 3/8", 112 pp. + ads + plus numerous unpaginated photographs throughout. The inevitable slight cover edge overlap curl, caused by the covers being a bit larger than the textblock; short light crease on back cover, else Near Fine. Clean, bright, binding sturdy. See scan. A very thick issue, despite the official page count of 112, because of the enormous number of unpaginated photographs and the use of very heavy paper stock. Single Issue Magazine. Condition: Very Good. Robert L. Lipman, A.C. Lovekin, J.S. Hutchinson, James K. Moffitt, Ansel F. Hall, Frank A. Williamson, C.O. Schneider, W. Harris, Con L. Grover, Frederick H. Morley, Walter L. Huber, Chester Versteeg (illustrator). First Edition. San Francisco: Sierra Club, 1923. First Edition. Vol XI, No. 4, for 1923. This was published during a several-year time period when the Sierra Club did not stipulate the month of an issue, just the volume, the number, and the year - monthly designations for such an infrequent publication having always been somewhat unnecessary in any case. Original printed wrappers, 9 1/4" x 6 1/4", 115 pp. + numerous unpaginated photographic plates, features and ads, including a fold-out map (Grouse Meadows to Vidette Meadow) and a fold-out wide-angle photograph by W.H. Wright. Gray stapled wraps, rather than the usual medium brown. Very Good; circuit binding (yapp binding) was used, in which cover edges were intentionally extended out beyond page edges, but over time the extended part becomes pressed inward somewhat (see scan). Some damage at inside front hinge area, and some spine sunning and abrasion. A handsome copy. See scans. Binding sturdy, contents fine. See scan of contents page for the lineup of stellar club writers and their always engaging and adventurous topics. In addition to the graphics mentioned above, this issue is chock full of photographic plates by the club's best photographers, as well as others, including Robert L. Lipman, A.C. Lovekin, J.S. Hutchinson, James K. Moffitt, Ansel F. Hall, Frank A. Williamson, C.O. Schneider, W. Harris (an 1867 shot), Con L. Grover, Frederick H. Morley, Walter L.
