A sua obra de maior destaque, intitulada Stratigraphy of the Ovamboland Basin, South West Africa (1979), é uma referência fundamental para o estudo das bacias sedimentares daquela região. Além do seu trabalho académico e de investigação, Hedberg atuou profissionalmente como geólogo consultor em projetos de engenharia civil e segurança pública, colaborando, por exemplo, na avaliação de riscos em zonas de minas abandonadas para o desenvolvimento de áreas residenciais 25 x 17.5 cm.
