Lovely collection of 5 most-loved fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen, part of a series of "Marvelous Tales" issued by Macmillan in the early 1960s, each with Commentary by a famous author (here, Isak Dinesen), & beautifully illustrated throughout in soft watercolor designs by different artists--here, Italians Sandro Nardini & Ugo Fontana. A FIRST EDITION, first printing from 1962, this oversized hardcover book is in VG condition: extremely clean, with the occasional spot or smudge. Binding secure, but paper covering spine is completely missing for the first 3" from top of spine down. Laminated acetate covering is intact with some rubbing at lower extremities. Glossy decorative boards are clean & colorful, but darkened; interior pages creamy white, colors bright. Former owner's name & address & date in neat pen on ffep.
