Cavanoz, spine with four raised bands where the author and title are stamped in gold, gilt top edge, covers and spine preserved. A few minor scuffs to the binding, otherwise in perfect condition, as are the interior pages. Beautiful modern illustrated edition of Anatole France's text, with delicate color compositions outside the text and within the text (initial letters) by Jacques Touchet. They were reproduced using stencils in Roger Nervet's art studios.

A little wear and light soiling on the spine's crown and tail. In the original glassine, which is a bit worn, particularly along the bottom edge. "The Artificial Paradises", adorned with engraved vignettes taken from Oriental manuscripts relating to opium and hashish. Text in French. Entrancingly illustrated.
