Extrêmement rare en édition ordinaire, et a fortiori sur grand papier, ce charmant livre illustré de poésies pour petits et grands est l'oeuvre du peintre surréaliste belge d'origine hollandaise Nicolas Eekman. Ses compositions sont gentiment fantastiques et ses poèmes pour enfants rappellent ceux que Robert Desnos composait vers la même époque. Un volume petit in-4°, reliure rigide éditeur, 1er plat illustré pleine page (avec un encadrement en bleu), d'un dessin coloré de EEKMAN (une petite maison rose sur une planète verte). La reliure est assurée par une spirale de couleur bleue. Après une page faux-titre et la page-titre, on trouve une Table des matières présentant…les titres des 33 poèmes annoncés avec les pages correspondantes (car l'ouvrage est paginé). Chacun des poèmes est illustré mais les illustrations sont tantôt hors-texte et en couleurs (17), tantôt in-texte et en noir (16). Ce livre pour enfants est tout à fait remarquable pour la qualité de ses textes et de ses poèmes. Il y circule une inspiration à la fois surréaliste et cubiste. Nicolas EEKMAN (1889 -1973) naquit en Belgique en 1889 et mourut à Paris en 1973. Il eût une vraie notoriété en tant que peintre,fréquenta les plus grands artistes de son temps et illustra nombre de livres. Il n'est cependant pas très connu pour celui-ci, qui est à sa manière un petit chef d'oeuvre. TRES BON ETAT.

This is copy 112 (pencil numbering). Kept in the original thick paper cover with printed title on front. Kept in a sliding box made b…y Alvarez. The large woodcut title has been reproduced on the cover in an embossed design which shows throudh a window in the sliding box. Everything in perfect condition. This series of woodcuts is considered the masterpiece of the belgian expressionist artist Eekman, born in Brussels but working for long years in Paris. Copies of this suite are kept in the Metropolitan Museum at New york and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Ex-libris Lecluyse-Vanderbeken.
