Condition: Very Good. 5th or later Edition. 284 pages with a small ink inscription to half title "John J Gibson" a lecturer at the Courtauld Inst in the 1980's-90's also 2 tiny underlinings at intro and last page, tiny corner crease bottom edge, otherwise a very good+ copy. undated, states 10th edition from the 1969 first in this format in English, so surmising, late 80's-90's? *The novel set in the 1910's in London and semi-autobiographical, the small businesses he begins and his interaction with the London prostitutes. The work was not well received and virtually ignored when published in 1943 due to his political views at the time. It was published later in the 1950's and in English in 1954.
