First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Mark Bright (illustrator). First Edition. 1998 FIRST EDITION (first printing) of 500 copies only, not reprinted. Original red cloth with black lettering spine, map illustrated EPs. This book was issued by the publisher WITHOUT dust jacket. No example of this book has a dust jacket. No dust jacket was ever made for this publication. The book has a faint 2cm diameter drop mark on the front cover (see photo: the drop mark is about 1/3 below the top of the front cover slightly off center to the right -- hard to see) otherwise it is in excellent, clean, unused condition. Looks like a wet raincoat shed a drop when it crossed over this one because the book was new and unmarked when I took it out to get it ready for listing. There are no previous owner's marks or writing on any pages, no creased corners, very clean, no tears, no marks inside or outside book, tight binding, hinges are fine and not cracked. Never used, handled, or displayed for sale. Purchased directly from the publisher and kept in climate controlled storage for years. This book measures 276mm tall x 185mm and has 96 pages, 8 b/w photos, 8 sketches (by Mark Bright), relief map on endpages, bibliography, list of Clyde's first ascents, chronology. The book has a 16-page biography of Clyde by Dennis Kruska. Also, Kruska has made detailed annotations to Clyde's letters. The core of this book consists of 25 unedited letters (unpublished prior to this book) that were written by Clyde over a 41-year span. They all relate to his climbing, tramping, skiing, and various outdoor adventures in the Sierra Nevada of California. Clyde "climbed more Sierra peaks, hiked more Sierra miles, and found more missing Sierra hikers than any other 20th century mountaineer." Clyde also did some pioneer mountain skiing in the Sierra Nevada (one letter discusses some). Among Clyde's first ascents are East Face of Mt Whitney (1931), second ascent by new route of El Picacho del Diablo in Baja Mexico (1932), first ascent of Mt Russell (1926), first ascent of Clyde Minaret (1928), fist ascent of Middle Palisade (1929), first ascent of the Devil's Crags (1934). Most of his mountaineering first ascents were made while climbing solo. This book won the "Award of Merit" from the 1999 Western Books Exhibition. This is an annual traveling exhibit sponsored by the Rounce & Coffin Club of Los Angeles that showcases outstanding examples of works produced by fine press printers and book artists. Paperback. Condition: New. This collection features five peer-reviewed literature reviews on decision support systems (DSS) in agriculture. The first chapter provides a review of DSS in agriculture, whilst addressing the key questions surrounding their use for farm soil and crop management. The different aspects of agricultural DSS design, implementation and operation are also discussed. The second chapter assesses the role of DSS for pest monitoring and management through information technology such as, remote sensing, GIS, spectral indices, image-based diagnostics, and phenology-based degree day models. The third chapter discusses the potential of implementing DSS within the growing mechanisation in greenhouses. It examines differences in development and application of deterministic explanatory and data-based models for real-time control and DSS.The fourth chapter explores the key issues associated with deploying DSS in precision agriculture, whilst also considering their human and social aspects. The chapter also considers how future research on DSS can be moulded to improve productivity in a precision agriculture setting. The final chapter outlines the importance of a participatory approach in DSS development, whilst also offering examples of climate-based DSS for crop and land management, pest and disease management, and livestock (dairy) management.
