Poems and character sketches by Butler, with engraved portraits of Butler and Thyer, engraved title page vignette, plus nine additional plates of Butler's characters mounted on paper printed with decorative borders. Full rich brown morocco leather with gilt bordered covers, raised spine bands, gilt lettering and decoration to the compartments, all edges gilt, elaborate gilt tooled dentelles, marbled endpapers, 302 pages. Very good to near fine, professionally rebacked with original spine retained, renewed endpapers, light rubbing to extremities, good hinges, firm text block, very clean pages, no names or other markings. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
