Original front free endpaper still present, with owner's name "Robert Massie / Morven / Wimborne / 1 Octr 1898". The missing plate has been supplied in facsimile ("Railway Accident at Los Cerillos, N.M.", facing page 313). 4 of the plates are at different locations to those called for in the Illustrations list. Some pencil marginalia. Newspaper clipping on Hawaii from 1898 tipped in at rear. Some foxing. ; xiv, [2], 351, [1], [1 (errata)], [1 (blank)] pages + 1 full page map ("Map of the Hawaiian Islands," with inset map of the Pacific Ocean) + frontispiece + 28 of 29 plates. Lacking the plate facing page 313, which has been supplied in a good quality facsimile. Blue cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine and front board. Gilt illustration on spine. Colour illustration on front board. Page dimensions: 252 x 158mm. Top page edges gilt.
