A tissue-covered frontispiece photo, along with illustrations from photos and sketches by Eileen Nusbaum. Uncommon in dust jacket. Deric (1913-1987) went on to a distinguished career in archeology, following in the footsteps of his father Jesse, a pioneering superintendent of the Mesa Verde National Park, circa 1921-1946. The book is unmarked; spine slant; corners sharp, spine ends bumped with some wear. The dust jacket is price-clipped; chipped and edgeworn with several short closed tears; Brodart protected.

Yellow cloth-covered boards with black titling. Nusbaum writes about growing up in Mesa Verde, where his father was the park superintendent, and of the Four Corners region of the southwest, with photos and descriptions of life among the Navajo, Zuni, Apache, Hopi, Taos Pueblo and other peoples. A fascinating look at life in the southwest desert almost 100 years ago. NEAR FINE, next to no external wear to boards, no soiling, previous owner's ink-stamped name and address on front pastedown, coffee stain on pages 23-25, otherwise very clean and bright interior with no writing and no underlining. Without the errant drop of coffee this book would have been listed as fine. No dust jacket.
