Add to basketSecond edition. Octavo. Publisher's black cloth, lettered gilt to spine, in the original dustwrapper. Signed by the author using his real name Brian O'Nolan to the front free endpaper. A very good copy in a very good dustwrapper. The dustwrapper has been restored and retouched in several places. Originally published during the Second World War by Longmans, much of the first edition was destroyed by a German bomb in 1940 after only 240 copies had sold. It fell out of print, despite praise from James Joyce and Graham Greene, before being reissued in 1960 by MacGibbon and Kee. The author was not an habitual signer of books, and autographed copies of his masterpiece are rare.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 2nd Edition. An astoundingly rare copy with cut signature, signed "Brian O'Nolan / xxiv . xii , 1965" pasted to title page. First issue of the second edition, with no mention of printings after 1960. Scarce with signature as author seldom signed anything at all. Signature pasted in over what appears to be a gift inscription. Book is good only with wear to all edges, toning, a lean, stains from previously taped down jacket as well as a tape repair to front hinge, jacket is a little better, likely being protected for some time, but is original with corresponding tape stains. Octavo, 316 pages, black boards, pictorial dust jacket. Satisfaction guaranteed. Additional photos always available on request. Shipped in a fitted, padded box. Signed by Author(s).
