Thomas Power O'Connor (1848-1929) was a Member of Parliament from 1885 to his death, so he was witness and participant in the Irish struggle for freedom. His co-author is identified as an important member of "the Land League in the U.S." Diaspora assistance was more than welcom, as the Land League in Ireland had been suppressed.
