Green cloth cover is soiled, sunned along spine, caps are lightly crushed, corners are bumped and rubbed but cover is in fair condition. Boards and spine are straight. Binding is tight. Gift inscription in pen on front end sheet. An individual page with notations in the margin in pen. Pages are clean, lightly toned and in very good condition. B&W illustrated frontispiece and several B&W illustrations in book.

Illustrated with 16 plates, including a b/w photographic frontispieve plate as called for. There is sunning to the spine and light fading to the boards across the head and adjacent to the spine strip. Scattered soiling to the boards. There is rubbing to the head and tail of the spine with a little loss of the cloth and light bumps to all corners with associated light rubbing. Neat ink inscription to the front end paper reading 'Theodore Podger, H. M. S. "Cornwall", Chatham, 9 Sept 1937'. There is some splitting to the rear inner hinge leaving the rear board a little tender. Small stain to the margin of pp4 and pp 5. Some scattered light foxing to the end papers, fore edges and title page and some scattered finger soiling. Complete. A fair copy of this scarce book.
