The other stick is for Currie, 'as a small remembrance of the pleasant time I spent with you at Hamburg and Kiel.' 'Inside the sticks you will find a saw, which can be taken out and fastened on to the hook. It is a useful little tool and I hope, when often used by you and Mr Gladstone, as we say bodiey [sic] exercise produces health, may help to prolong your life and Mr. Gladstone's for many years to come, for the happiness of England and of all your friends and admirers.'
