Ormsby was a distinguished American dermatologist and medical educator who established himself as one of the leading figures in American dermatology during the early to mid twentieth century, contributing both to the clinical practice and to the academic and educational development of the specialty through his teaching, his institutional affiliations, and his published scholarship. His work at a major American medical institution gave him access to a substantial and varied clinical experience that underpinned the practical authority of his published writing on skin diseases, and his commitment to medical education informed the pedagogical approach he brought to his major written works. Clark Wylie Finnerud was a dermatologist who contributed to the revision and updating of the work, bringing his own clinical expertise and scholarly knowledge to bear on the task of keeping the text current with developing medical knowledge and practice, particularly in the area of histopathology which received specific attention in the revised edition bearing both authors' names.
