Joseph Seaton Heliomann (1896-1973): 'Born out of flanged conduits, of impatient flounced womb in pieces, each numbered and lettered in a form of cryptic Etruscan slang, parts grafted together to form whole by gynaecologists working closely with mother, who by divine inspiration sang the magic formula of life to the strains of an opera by Donizetti.' Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. One of 100 copies signed and numbered by the author (this copy unnumbered, as often seen) (of 500). 8vo. Stab-stapled wrappers. ii, 54pp. His second book, after 'Hummi Grundi: Part One'; 'His first novel "Book titles on Books", written in collaboration with Allen Fisher, in 1968, is yet to be published.' Stefan Themerson describes this book as 'a novella in the Diderot tradition, it takes firstly the characters and their absurdities, then moves on to situations and concepts, treating them in like manner'. Very Good, with a little spotting to wrappers, and mild toning. Together with a foolscap poster, designed by Nations, advertising the book (although not using the words 'Extracts from', and with a gender difference in the subtitle). The illustration, which fills the majority of the poster, shows the top half of a smartly dressed figure with a telephone for a head, his lower half apparently submerged in a sink full of water; the image is not the same as the book's cover. Folded horizontally three times, the head edge slightly dog-eared and spotted, but attractive nonetheless. Signed by Author(s).

Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. One of 150 copies. 4to. Stab-stapled. 14pp. Privately published drawings and texts, with a cover collage by the author. The address given is the same as on Global Infantilist items by Nations; it was apparently his address. 'Shalmar grabbed Jeaplus and threw him away. Jeaplus did not accept the concept, so in turn Jeaplus threw away the concept'. About Very Good, with a few spots, the back cover slightly toned and soiled around the staples. Loosely inserted are four sheets printing different artworks by Nations, all 4to (although dimensions vary), printed in various colours on brown, green, and cream paper stocks. They show: a repeated image of a baby in the womb, an image used in 'Jeaplus and Shalmar', albeit slightly adapted. The image is identified in Herve Fischer's 'Art et Communication Marginale: Tampons d'Artistes' as the 'rubber stamp of the global infantilist movement the use of living infant and babies in events situations and written and visual representation in concepts and anti-concepts generally viewed as bearing some sort of anti-art situation'; a head literally in the clouds, with curtains over the eyes, along with the same baby image; a baby suffering on a table in a room, surrounded by small, sinister figures with KKK-style masks; and a sinister figure with hypodermic needles attached to his body, standing over a baby, with the heading 'GIVE BLOOD TO THOSE IN NEED'. Although not all explicitly connected to 'Jeaplus and Shalmar', the shared theme is clear. Two of the prints are dated 1973, the other two being undated; three of the prints are signed by Nations. Heavy edgewear to one print, encroaching a little upon the image, and some toning to two prints, but striking nonetheless. Signed by Author(s).
Side-stapled wrappers with pink back cover. This is the "Ron Padgett Issue" and includes a cover by Joe Brainard. This is from an edition of 250 copies and is signed by Ron Padgett. Very near fine, bright and clean.

In this artist's book, Hambleton details the original "Murder Research" in which 620 "image murders" were committed in 15 North American cities over a three year period. A subsequent mail-art project comprised of 240 artists' responses to Hambleton's request to complete the identity of "Mr. Reeee" (the mass killer) is also documented. Includes comments on the process by 28 of the participating artists including Hambleton, Ulises Carrión, Robin Crozier, Peter Below, David Zack, Leonhard Frank Duch, Ko De Jonge, Robert Rehfeldt, Judith A. The Perpetual Cyclic Calendar operates as a slide ruler. An inner shaft can be moved in and out to predict the future of the artist. The phallic shaft is fully extended in peak years of productivity, retreating post-coitus style during the slump years. A major thrust in creativity was anticipated in 1984, 2000, 1982-1983, 1983-1988. To drive the point home, the rise and fall of Hambleton's creativity is plotted in stylized graphs and charts, like the projected profits and losses of a corporation.
