Hardcover. Condition: Fair. 2nd Edition, Illustrated Edition. The Moscow City Art Gallery of P. and S. Tretyakov is a rare and important large-format publication devoted to the famous Moscow art collection founded by Pavel and Sergei Tretyakov, which became the foundation of the Tretyakov Gallery. The text was written by the artist and collector Ilya S. Ostroukhov and the art critic Sergey Glagol, under the general editorship of Ostroukhov. Published by I. Knebel in Moscow in 1909, the work was issued in an exceptionally large format and accompanied by high-quality heliogravure reproductions (our copy lacks the heliogravures) of works from the gallery. . The publication is particularly significant for the history of Russian art because it documents the Tretyakov collection at the beginning of the 20th century, before the gallery underwent the later Soviet-era transformations and additions. Individual plates from the edition are preserved in the collection of the State Historical Museum; for example, the 1909 edition included a heliogravure reproduction of Ostroukhov's celebrated landscape Siverko. In the publisher's half-leather portfolio of English book-cloth, featuring a polychrome embossed design by V. Vasnetsov (18 colors and gold). Pages: Part I — 80 p.; Part II — 164 p. Condition: Very worn condition for its age, but this is a rare and historically important edition. The binding shows considerable age-related wear, rubbing, and other signs of use. There are many age-related stains and spots throughout the pages. There is a tear on page 19 that has been repaired with tape. In our copy lacks the heliogravures. Despite the considerable wear, the book remains a rare and desirable publication documenting the early history of the Tretyakov Gallery. Please see the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and show the actual condition of the item. If you have any questions about the condition or details of the book, please do not hesitate to ask before purchasing. **International buyers: Import duties, VAT, and customs clearance fees, if applicable, are the buyer's responsibility and are determined by the destination country's customs authorities. ** Important for EU buyers: Due to recent EU customs regulations, shipments from non-EU countries may be subject to import duties, VAT, customs clearance charges, or postal handling fees.
