Osuga was born March 9, 1936 in Sacramento, California, the third son of nine children to Keizo and Hisako Osuga. As part of the relocation of Japanese Americans during World War II he was interned at Tule Lake Relocation Center and later moved to Heart Mountain, Wyoming. After the war, they settled in Denver, Colorado where David graduated from East High School. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Colorado, Boulder. David moved to California to work at the University of California, Davis. He was active in the local Church fellowship where he met Irene and they married in 1964. David obtained his Master of Science in Biochemistry at UCD and was employed there for 48 years. During his work as a protein scientist he co-authored over 60 publications. His work included research excursions to Antarctica, Norway, Newfoundland, and the Bering Sea. David had many hobbies and interests. He and Irene traveled extensively. David was an avid reader and cultivated an incredible garden. He loved camping and fishing. David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irene. He will always be loved by his children Carl (Leddis), Curt (Charo) and Candice (Jeffrey). David truly enjoyed being with his grand-children- Elizabeth, Camille, Matthew and Maleah. He was always a supportive husband, father, brother, uncle and grand-father. He lost his valiant battle with esophageal cancer July 28, 2018. A celebration of life was held on August 11, 2018.
