Leather Binding. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Attractively bound in period brown French calf, spine with raised bands, red morocco label, and elaborate gilt floral tooling within gilt-ruled compartments, edges red; marbled endpapers (some rubbing, some nicking; rear hinge renewed with red leather…at some point in the 19th century; spine has a couple of tiny worm holes - none noted in text). French translation of this 16th-century Latin poem in 12 parts (one for each sign of the Zodiac). Bookseller's label on rear pastedown of Librairie Dorbon-aîné, the celebrated French firm of publishers and booksellers (whose papers reside at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, University of Texas at Austin). This is the extremely uncommon 1735 edition, not the more common 1733 printing also issued under the imprint of Prevost. Note: The imprint is false; printed in France (Weller). Marcel Palingene, pseudónimo de Pier Angelo Ma…nzolli, escreveu esta obra dividida em 12 partes, representantes de cada signo do zoodíaco, como forma de atacar o clero e Lutero e promover a fé na ciência e progresso. Originalmente publicado em 1536, foi adicionado ao Index Librorum Prohibitorum em 1559, tendo o autor falecido antes de 1551.
