Slipcase rubbed and foxed with scuffing at corners; seams remain firm. No dust jacket (presumably as issued). Gray cloth with slight soiling and rubbing; rear board's bottom fore-edge corner bumped. Foxing to b/w plate section's text block edges with a few plates slightly affected at margins; some foxing to color frontispiece as well. Five-line ink inscription "To Dorothy McCardle | with the respect [+] affection | of the author's widow | Dorothy Vandegrift Lee | January 22, 1969" immediately followed by ink signature of "Majorie King" whose association to the book is unknown; another name handwritten in ink at bottom of page 411; text leaves otherwise remain clean. Binding is firm. Book was published posthumously as Cazenove Gardner Lee, Jr. passed in 1945; widow Dorothy Vandegrift Lee (1886-1972) saw the book through to publication upon the editorial efforts of Washington DC journalist Dorothy Mills Parker (1911-2005).
