A few pages with ink notation, the wrappers detached but present, rubbing and soiling to the wrappers, and a crease to the top corner of the front wrapper, a complete but good only copy. The music is primarily for voice and piano, some chord diagrams for ukulele. The title page prints the copyright date as 1936, and this will be reflected in the descriptions of most of the copies you see for sale, but underneath the last piece of music, "When the Saints Go Marching In" arranged by George Snowhill, the copyright is 1956, and this is the latest copyright date in the book. Features 18 songs including, "A Hot Time in the Old Town," "Roll Them Roly Boly Eyes," "Oh! Susanna," and "Ida: Sweet as Apple Cider.".

Softcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition; First Printing. Stapled, red, pictorial wraps with black and red titles and image of stereotyped blackface minstrel. This book has light, general wear with some wear near staples and two bits of writing in pencil on white hat brim. Minstrelsy began around the time of the Civil War and persisted into the 1960's and 1970's. Though racially charged in its conception, minstrel shows were performed by both black and white entertainers and they probably preserved many songs that were African-American in origin. This book is a complete minstrel show with both a script and musical numbers. There are some rather poorly reproduced photos on pp. 5 and 7 of famous minstrel performers including the great, African-American singer and comedian, Bert Williams. ; B&W Illustrations and Musical Notation; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 47 pages.
