22 pages including covers. Staple-bound paperback: H 28cm x L 21.75cm. Toned paper covers with slight wear at edges and along spine fold. Interior toning as well with some brittleness to paper. Front cover features compare-contrast illustration of a seated disgruntled and idle veteran of 1932 versus presumably the same veteran in 1936 now smiling and standing upright with left arm raised as an employed surveyor; illustration is signed "Enright" at bottom right (no further credit provided) which matches the signature of political cartoonist Walter J. "Pat" Enright (1879-1969) who, in the 1920s and early 1930s, worked for the New York Evening World and the New York American thereafter working for the Miami Herald from 1933-1943 and the Palm Beach Post from 1943-1948. Interior content mostly comprised of 1932 photos on versos juxtaposed against 1936 images on opposing rectos as a then-versus-now evidence of American economic improvements presumably printed in advance the 1936 federal elections. The left-side 1932 images show strife-ridden scenes of unemployed WWI American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) veterans during events of the 1932 Great Bonus March on Washington, DC whereas the right-side 1936 images show veterans enrolled in WPA and CCC public works projects such as levee construction, national forest improvements, flood assistance, etc. Bottom binding staple appears to be missing; center and top staples have varying rust but binding is holding. Final script for the 1934 pre-Code film musical, seen here under the working title "Hot Air," but with the final title "Twenty Million Sweethearts" embossed on the front board of the binding. Specially bound copy belonging to screenwriter Jerry Wald, with his name in gilt on the front board, and his annotations in manuscript ink on the distribution page, noting the names of actors in the film. Jerry Wald is best remembered for his long and successful association with Warner Brothers as both a screenwriter and producer of a number of notable films, including "Mildred Pierce" (1945), "Humoresque" (1946), "Key Largo" (1948), and "Flamingo Road" (1949). In the 1950s he moved to Twentieth Century-Fox, and was the producer there for "An Affair to Remember" (1957), "Peyton Place" (1957), and "Sons and Lovers" (1960). A pre-Code comedy following a singing waiter on his rise to fame as a radio star, aided by his wife, whose own career in radio is flagging, and a dishonest agent. Ginger Rogers' performance as the waiter's wife was widely praised, and subsequently proved to be her breakthrough role. Bound in full red leather, with gilt titles on the spine and front board. Distribution page present, dated 12/20/33, noted as FINAL and stamped copy No. 84, with receipt intact.
