Set agains the background of the 1917 Balfour Declaration, which pledged British support for establishing a homeland for the Jewish people in Palestine, this is the account of the Judeans by its outspoken (non-Jewish) Commanding Officer, Col. J. H. Patterson, who is palpably proud of having led the Judeans, which he rightly describes as a âunique unitâ whose formation was âunprecedented in our annalsâ. As Patterson recognises, the Judeans were Zionists, fighting not only for the British cause against the Ottoman Turks who then held sway over the Holy Land, but also âfor the restoration of the Jewish people to the Promised Landâ. Pattersonâs account of the victyorious 1918 campaign that swept the Turks out of what is now Israel, Palestine and Jordan, is shot through both with his pride in his men, when he goes as far as claiming that the campaign âwas actually pivoted on the sons of Israel who were once again fightinbg the enemy, not far from the spot where their forefathers had croosed the Jordan under Joshuaâ. Patterson is also - unusually, given the high degree of anti-Semitism then prevalent in Britainâs officer class - highly critical of his fellow officers for discriminating against the Judeans, and other Jewish settlers in Palestine. This book is a rare insight into a remarkable episode in Anglo-Jewish histlory, and should interest anyone wishing to know more of the background to current conflicts in the Middle East. It is illustrated with 22 photographs of officers of the Judeans and Palestinian scenes, including Biblical sites.

Hardback. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st edition. Reckless Disregard: How Liberal Democrats Undercut Our Military by Lt Col Robert (Buzz) Patterson USAF Ret. Published by Regnery Publishing Inc, Washington, DC, 2004. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardbound. Paper DJ. Size 8vo (up to 9-1/2'' tall). Condition: Fine in Good DJ. 258 Pgs. ISBN 0895260867. A frontline soldier's report on how liberalism and national security don't mix. With coverage that spans the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq to debates in Congress, the author reveals: how Kerry ''staged'' a combat scene in Vietnam for which he was decorated; why Kerry's behavior as a recently returned veteran verged on treason, and is typical of the new Democratic Party; how the disastrous presidencies of Carter and Clinton encouraged radical Islamic terror against the US; how the Democrats continue to gut our military effectiveness. Relentless in its critique, told with all the passion and conviction of a combat pilot, and urgent in its message, this book belongs in the hands of every American patriot.
